Social Security disability funds due to run out in 2018

Posted on Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 at 9:53 am

Social Security disability funds are predicted to run out by 2018, resulting in severe cuts in benefits for disabled workers and their families.

The state of the Social Security disability program is often overlooked or even ignored during talks about the financial situation surrounding the entire program. However, 2018 is an important date because it is the earliest point in time by which Congress will be forced to act to make serious changes to the program. Without serious action, those who receive disability benefits now may not receive them in the future.

Social Security Applications Soar in Maine

Posted on Tuesday, January 5th, 2010 at 10:20 am

The number of applications for social security is up 17 percent in one year. This increased demand means longer wait time for workers who can no longer work at their jobs. If you or someone you love isn’t receiving the social security check that he or she deserves, the New Jersey social security disability lawyers of Levinson Axelrod, P.A. may be able to help you get what you deserve.

It is believed that the current economic situation mixed with the aging baby boomer generation are leading to the influx of social security applications. It usually takes about 70 days between the time when a person files for social security disability and when they receive it. Last year, in Maine, this increased to 80 days. The backlog of people filing is making it difficult for those who need to pay their bills.

Officials in Maine, hope that an improvement in the economy will help with the backlog of applicants.
