As of today there are still 21 people unaccounted for after the Costa Concordia cruise ship was grounded last Friday, January 13. The rescue divers are doing everything in their power to complete their assignments but the disastrous weather conditions are making it increasingly hard.
According to officials, the captain of the Costa Concordia is fully responsible for the grounding of the cruise ship. The captain chose to navigate the ship through uncharted waters, too close to the coast line, and ultimately struck the reef near Giglio, Italy. He was arrested and is facing numerous charges for his actions including abandoning ship and manslaughter.
The Costa Concordia was carrying 4,200 people when it began to tip and almost all of those persons have been located besides the 21 on the missing list. There have been 11 confirmed deaths from the ship accident and Italian officials have currently released seven of their names. The search for the missing people was resumed early Wednesday morning.
