Residents in Michigan who apply for Social Security Disability face some of the longest waits in the country, but the opening of two new facilities and a satellite facility will be able to cut down on the waiting time.
The commissioner of Social Security cut the ribbon at a new office earlier this week and will be doing the same thing later this month. The office that opened this week will be staffed with 10 administrators and 45 other support staff members.
These new offices will bring the total number of offices in Michigan to seven and will increase the number of administrative judges from 46 to 71. The average time it takes to process a case in Michigan is 550 cases.
